Looking for the perfect improv comedy class in Sacramento? Designed for adults of all experience levels—especially those new to improv—this fun and supportive class helps you build confidence, improve public speaking, and connect with others through short-form games and on-the-spot creativity. Whether you're looking for a new creative outlet, a way to step out of your comfort zone, or just something fun to do in Sacramento, this improv class is the perfect fit. No experience needed—just bring your curiosity and sense of humor!
Class Session:
- Tuesdays, 7-9 PM
- June 17th, 24th, July 1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd
During this class, students will learn to:
- Revisit and embrace the powers of playfulness and joy in a supportive environment
- Work collaboratively with scene partners to establish, contribute to, and sustain a shared reality through the power of “yes, and…”
- Frame “failures” or “mistakes” as opportunities rather than avoiding them
- Proactively and compassionately support their partners through listening, humility, and compassion
- Understand basic story structure and use it as a framework for building improv scenes
- Think outside the box, stretch creative thinking “muscles,” and practice thinking quickly on your feet
- Collaboratively justify any idea within the reality of an established scene
- Commit to ideas with your scene partner(s), even if it seems silly
- Convey emotions during a scene and explore spontaneous emotional reactions
- Construct basic scenes with others, including adding specific details to scenes
- Prepare for our next class level: Intermediate Improv
- Have fun and be gentle with yourself and others!

Tuition is nonrefundable. You must be at least 18 to register.
Parking:
Metered parking and free 2 hour street parking is available near the venue.
Accessibility and Comfort:
Seats will be provided both onstage and off, and we are happy to accommodate any requests to sit or take additional breaks for those who need them. Please let us know if you'll be needing any other accommodations and we will work to accommodate you as best as possible! The bathroom is on the second floor with a wheelchair lift, for those who need it.
About the instructor:
A life-long resident of Sacramento, Jessilee Windhaus (she/they) brings over two decades of expertise in theatre and improv education and leadership. She holds a BA in Theatre from CSUS and is the Co-Founder and former Improv Program Director of Empire Arts Collective and the Founder of That Plus Chips live sketch and improv comedy troupe. Locally, Jessilee has performed at Sacramento Comedy Spot, STAB! Comedy, and ComedySportz Sacramento, where she served as the Director of the High School League program. She has trained with Upright Citizen's Brigade and The Groundlings and mentored young actors nationwide as a Tour Actor/Director with Missoula Children's Theatre. She currently works as a Teaching Artist at B Street Theater and an improv instructor and producer for Windhaus Improv, including serving as the director and coach of the improv group Sharks Barksley.
